Patent search: $500

Preparing and filing the application: $1000 - $3000, depending on complexity of the invention and the number and complexity of the drawings

Prosecution: $2000

Government fees:
Filing fee: $515
Issue fee: $700
Publication (if applicable): $300
Maintenance fees: $465 at 3.5 year anniversary of issuance; $ at 7.5 year anniversary; and $ at 11.5 year anniversary

If you think this is high, you haven’t experienced getting a foreign patent! While some countries like Canada, the UK and India re reasonable, in many others it is not uncommon for costs to exceed $10,000. And here the application has already been drafted!
